If you run a service business and are preparing a website, you may find that each team describes the offer differently. Before asking for more pages, agree on what the buyer needs to understand. Some decisions fit within the website project; others call for dedicated brand work.
When the problem extends beyond the website
How do you know whether your brand needs reviewing?
Check whether the confusion also appears in proposals, presentations and sales conversations. If it affects what you offer, who it is for or what you call it, the work goes beyond one page. If the message is already clear and only needs a visual treatment, you can define a narrower website project.
Illustrative example: you sell industrial services, but the sales team and management describe the same service with different scopes. Changing the design will not resolve that disagreement. First, you need an explanation both can stand behind when speaking to a client.
Separate decisions from materials
What should each project include?
The brand project should identify which decisions will be revisited and which guidelines will be delivered. The website project should explain how to apply them to content and pages. Distinguish the agreed message from the design of each asset. That separation helps you budget for what is needed and recognize when the scope expands.
The Design Council’s Double Diamond offers a way to understand and define a problem before developing solutions. We apply that principle to your communications: clarify the need before choosing the deliverables.
Ask for a handover others can use
How can you check whether the brand work is useful?
Apply the proposal to a real service, a webpage and a presentation. Check whether the people receiving the materials understand what they may change and what they should keep. The handover needs usable rules and examples as well as files. That way, you can commission new materials without deciding the identity again from scratch.
Define the first conversation
What materials can you bring to get started?
A current page, a sales proposal and an inquiry that reveals confusion. Point out what the client needs to understand and who must validate the answer. With that sample, we can distinguish whether the message, the identity or its application needs work, and define a scope tied to a specific need.
Calicata offers brand work as a standalone service or alongside other services, with its own scope and budget. We want your company’s capabilities to be easy to understand and your materials to help people make an informed choice.
