We are Calicata

Engineering with a business perspective.

We connect software, design and infrastructure with the real work of a company. We bring technical judgement to building a product, improving a system or supporting IT and R&D teams.

Founders

The people behind the decisions.

Web development and commercial insight. Advanced software and security. Two complementary backgrounds to address the whole problem.

Portrait of Tomás Fernández

Web development, infrastructure and business understanding.

Tomás Fernández

Graduate in Computer Science Education in Cuba.

Combines engineering fundamentals, teaching experience and direct work with businesses to turn real needs into useful digital solutions.

Learn more about Tomás Fernández

Background and approach

He spent eight years studying computing: three in vocational education and five in higher education in Cuba. His training covered programming, data structures, mathematics, networks, computer architecture and web development, alongside teaching methods for explaining complex technology clearly.

He completed his higher education at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico Héctor Alfredo Pineda Zaldívar while working as a teacher. Studying at night and teaching during the day established an approach grounded in learning, explaining and supporting others.

In Spain, he returned to WordPress development and site management, extending his work to PHP, SQL, JavaScript, CSS, user experience and interface design. He continued studying cybersecurity independently and works with servers, SSH access, containers and infrastructure. Managing Zurikato gave him a direct understanding of usability, communication and commercial needs.

Technical and product skills

Engineering fundamentals
Programming logic, algorithms, object-oriented programming and data structures — arrays, trees, stacks and queues — alongside mathematics, calculus, networks and computer architecture.
Web and user experience
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL and MySQL; WordPress development and management, interface design, usability, graphic design and digital communication for businesses.
Infrastructure and operations
Virtual server administration through SSH, containers and Kubernetes; choosing infrastructure proportionate to the project's costs and needs.
Security, product and teaching
Ongoing cybersecurity training, product judgement, marketing and copywriting; experience teaching computing and explaining technical decisions to other teams.

Portrait of Oscar González

Software, security and decentralised systems.

Oscar González

Mathematician specialising in cybernetics, graduate of the University of Tokyo.

Brings a mathematical and engineering perspective to software problems that require robustness, security and room to evolve.

Background and approach

He has more than fifteen years of experience in software development and security. His work combines programming, system architecture and technical analysis, with a particular focus on Python and, in more recent projects, Rust.

Since 2020, he has collaborated with Tomás on tools and projects related to blockchain and Web3, including components for exchange environments. That work combines experimentation and code improvement with attention to reliability and the decisions needed to take an idea into production.

At Calicata, he helps assess complex problems, choose proportionate architecture and build software and infrastructure with security and maintenance in mind.

Technical and product skills

Software and languages
Rust and Python as primary tools; experience with PHP, Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Application architecture, algorithms, concurrency, distributed systems and improvements to existing code.
Cybersecurity and infrastructure
Security analysis, red teaming, smart contract reviews, system design, servers and infrastructure for applications that need reliability and long-term maintenance.
Blockchain and Web3
Development of tools and components for projects on Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana and Base; work on library code for exchange environments.
Mathematics and product
A grounding in mathematics and cybernetics for modelling complex problems; interface judgement, user experience, graphic design and technical communication when working with a team.

Let’s talk about your project

Tomás and Oscar founded Calicata and develop software together. They have worked together since 2020 and can collaborate with individuals as well as IT and R&D teams needing software architecture, automation, integrations, infrastructure, security or Web3. Each proposal identifies who contracts, invoices and takes responsibility for the work before it begins.

How we think

Knowledge that becomes useful work.

Calicata was founded to make technological innovation more accessible. Continuous learning helps us connect what we know with new problems, in our own products and in solutions for others.

Curiosity
Ask what is happening before choosing a tool.
Precision
Make decisions, connections and checks explicit.
Ambition
Explore new possibilities and give them a practical application.

Considered technology choices

The tool serves the work.

Choose according to the problem, not prestige or novelty. These capabilities are combined according to the requirements, team and operation of each project.

Rust
Software, SaaS and advanced systems where concurrency, resource control and memory safety need particular attention. We assess how Rust fits the existing architecture.
Web and user experience
TypeScript, React and Next.js for custom products and interfaces; WordPress for websites and content management when it fits the scope. Structure, accessibility and a clear message are part of the work.
Automation and data
Rust, Python, PostgreSQL and integrations between tools to reduce repetitive tasks, organise data flows and keep track of what happens.
Security and Web3
Reviews of software, infrastructure and smart contracts; development of blockchain components and integrations. Scope, permissions and risks are defined before any intervention.
Infrastructure and continuity
Servers, containers, deployment and maintenance to support day-to-day operation. We agree what to monitor, how to recover from failure and who is responsible for each part.

How we work

From conversation to a concrete decision.

Código Palanca organises diagnosis, scope and construction. You know what we are solving and how we will check it.
